Joel Pedersen Leadership + Resiliency + Motivation

“Rising Above”

As the most senior non-commissioned officer appointed by the Minister of National Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff, Joel Pedersen is the embodiment of perseverance and determination. The only First Nations Chief Warrant Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Joel recognizes the importance of collaboration in strengthening communities. Decorated soldier, police sergeant, and fitness guru, Joel inspires audiences to go beyond their own expectations, embrace resiliency, and discover their leadership potential.

Pedersen serves as an Infantry Sergeant Major with the Canadian Armed Forces and is a Police Sergeant with the Saskatoon Police Service. Pedersen is a positive role model not just because of his accomplishments or careers. Despite his position he believes in providing an example of what a healthy lifestyle can be.  Joel owns and operates Fitness 2J2, a professional Aboriginal Fitness Instruction and Consulting company with socially responsible, community-based health and wellness values at its core.
Joel’s experience in the Army has taken him to Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East and North America. He directly credits his training in the army with allowing him to start his fitness business and to become a Saskatoon Police Officer. Joel leads two units of the Infantry, the Royal Regina Rifles and the North Saskatchewan Regiment. Ironically, the history of those infantry units go back to the resistance of 1885 through to the war in Afghanistan.

Pedersen’s high rank within the Canadian Armed Forces is matched by his humility.
“The military trained me to do more than what is expected. To appreciate my own strengths and limitations and pursue self-improvement, seek and accept responsibility, know your people and promote their welfare and develop the leadership potential of your people.  These are some of the principals I try to use to the best of my ability each day.” said Pedersen.

A member of Fond du Lac Dene Nation, and linked to the Mikisew Cree First Nation, Pedersen intends to take what he has learned and pass it on with hopes of using fitness to empower Indigenous communities.

“In the military it does not matter what color of skin you are, that is not what separates you from others.  It is about being a soldier and putting others first, respecting yourself so that you can respect others.”
